Building Bridges Project, The
Building Bridges is a Health Action Zone Innovation Fund project which aims to address the mental health needs of black and minority ethnic children and their families. The project has recently expanded using Children’s Fund money to address the needs of black and minority ethnic children who are disabled, or at risk of being looked after by the local authority - this is known as the Building Strengths Project. The scope of the project includes preventative work such as advocacy and running mental health promotion groups with families from the Somali community. Building Bridges works with other agencies and the project has an emphasis on engaging and consulting with local communities about their service needs.

Citizen Advice Bureau - Toxteth CAB provides advice services to the  general public on a wide variety of issues including welfare benefits, debt, housing, consumer issues, employment, family / personal issues and asylum issues.  They are also able to refer clients with complex cases to specialist advisers in welfare benefits, debt and housing.

Toxteth CAB also have a specialist CAB Sure Start Worker who provides general advice for people with children aged 0-4 years.  There is also a Financial Literacy Project based at the Bureau helping Lone Parents to deal with debt/manage their money.

The Family Refugee Support Project aims to improve and increase the understanding of the mental health needs of refugees and asylum seeker families in Liverpool. Supporting family functioning, increasing independence and social networks and peer support through the use of horticulture.

Education and Childcare

MAPS Nursery provides education and childcare to children by a qualified and experienced team of staff who aim to consistently improve on service delivery and practices.
 
The setting actively promotes equality and inclusion, and supports children with additional needs and those who speak English as an additional language. Admission policy covers a wide criteria including purchased and funded places.  Hours include full time and part time. Providing opportunities for learning and development that are rich, stimulating and fulfilling.
 
The nursery works closely alongside Matthew Arnold Primary School and its experienced staff.  Children within MAPS nursery are able to participate in weekly sessions in both Soft Play and Multi Sensory rooms. Children are encouraged to eat from our healthy eating snacks menu.

Childminders
 
A childminder network runs from within Dingle Lane Children Centre.
 
The support group is a group of OFSTED registered childminders managed by a designated co-ordinator.  Childminders are professional people who provide good quality home based childcare which meets the needs of the local community.
 
The childminder support group holds their drop-in sessions at the Children Centre.  Sessions are  every Wednesday morning between 10:00am and 12:00pm to enable their minded children to have experience of group activities.

Dingle Lane Children Centre brings together a wide range of services for children from birth to 5 years of age and their families, and pregnant women and their partners.  The Centre is a one-stop shop within the community for parents, providing childcare, education, health, and family support. Also provides advice on employment and training.
 
These services are for everyone within the Riverside ward and beyond.  Just register at the centre and you can use all the services.  All the services are free, except for the daycare, but help for this can be gained through the Working Families Tax Credits.

A Children's centre brings together a wide range of service for children from birth - five years and their families. The centres create a one-stop shop within the community for parents and providers of childcare and family support.
